Your First Brazilian Wax: What to Expect

Expect a short consent form, a brief sting with each pull, and some redness that generally fades within 72 hours. Here is how to prepare and how to look after your skin afterwards.

What happens at your first Brazilian wax

Your first Brazilian wax follows the same steps as every Brazilian we do, and knowing them takes most of the nerves out of it. A Brazilian is a full intimate-area wax done with hard wax, which sets on the hair rather than gripping the skin.

Before your appointment, complete our Service Consent Form. It covers allergies, medications, and the products you use on your skin, so your stylist knows what to work around. A signed copy stays on file for future visits.

When it is time to start, you cleanse the area with the wipe we provide. Your stylist then applies warm hard wax, leaves it a few seconds to set, and lifts it off without a strip, working section by section. Every dip uses a single-use wooden spatula, so nothing goes back into the pot after it has touched skin. We finish with soothing post-wax care to calm redness.

How to prepare for a Brazilian wax

Hair needs enough length for the wax to grip. A common guide is about a quarter of an inch, roughly the length of a grain of rice. If you have been shaving, that usually means letting it grow for about two weeks.

For 72 hours before your appointment, skip scrubs, Retin-A and retinol, take-home microdermabrasion, exfoliating, and tanning. Alpha hydroxy products, chemical peels, and bleaching creams need a longer break of 30 days. Skin that has just been treated with any of these is more likely to react to wax.

If you have an open skin lesion or an active herpes outbreak, including a cold sore, please rebook for after it has healed. On the day itself, comfortable clothing and loose cotton underwear make the trip home easier.

Does a first Brazilian wax hurt?

Yes, a little, and it helps to expect that. Each pull stings for a moment and then fades quickly. The first appointment tends to feel the most intense, partly because you do not yet know what is coming.

Hard wax is the gentler option for this area because it holds the hair and not the surrounding skin. Breathe out slowly as each section comes away, tell your stylist if you want a moment, and ask questions at any time. Every treatment is performed by a Master Cosmetologist or a stylist with 15+ years of practice.

Which wax to choose for your first Brazilian

You choose the formula when you book, and the price shown is the full price of the service. If nothing about your skin points elsewhere, our standard hard wax at $45 is the house formula and suits most skin.

Sugar gel wax at $50 is water soluble and rinses clean, which makes it the one to pick if resin waxes have irritated you before. Tea tree at $60 is made for acne-prone skin, coconut at $60 is for delicate and reactive skin, and golden honey at $65 is ideal for coarse hair. Our guide to choosing a hard wax compares all eight.

Brazilian wax aftercare: the first 72 hours

Redness, swelling, tenderness, and small pimples can follow a wax. They are temporary and generally fade within 72 hours.

During those 72 hours, avoid peels, tanning, and wet room services, and stay out of swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs. Loose clothing is more comfortable for the first day.

Once your skin has settled, gentle exfoliation helps keep ingrown hairs at bay, as long as you stop 72 hours before your next wax. If ingrowns or dark patches become a concern, our Vajacial Treatment at $45 is a soothing post-wax treatment that targets both. A common rhythm for rebooking is every four to six weeks.
