How to remove Halloween makeup: dissolve it first
The way to remove Halloween makeup without irritating your skin is to dissolve it before you wash. Face paint, heavy foundation, and waterproof liner are designed to stay put, and water alone mostly moves them around.
Massage a cleansing oil or balm over dry skin and give it a minute to break the makeup down. Add a splash of water so it turns milky, then rinse. Water-activated face paint often comes away with a gentle cleanser alone. Cream and grease paints are the ones that need oil.
Work in slow circles and let the product do the work. Scrubbing harder does not lift more makeup. It just leaves your skin red.
Then cleanse a second time
Once the color is gone, wash again with your usual gentle cleanser. The first pass loosens the makeup, and the second clears away the oil and whatever is left, so nothing sits on your skin overnight.
Pat your face dry with a clean towel rather than rubbing it, and check your hairline, jaw, and the sides of your nose, where paint likes to hide.
Taking off false lashes, lash glue, and spirit gum
Peel strip lashes off slowly from the outer corner, holding the band rather than your own lashes. If the glue resists, hold a cotton pad soaked in an oil-based remover against the lash line for a few seconds, then try again.
Spirit gum and prosthetic adhesive need the remover made for them. Pulling a prosthetic off dry tugs at the skin underneath, so soften the edges first and lift slowly.
If you would rather have lashes taken off by a stylist, Rozy's offers lash removal for $15. Call your studio to book it.
How to get glitter off your face
Glitter spreads with every wipe, so lift it off before you start cleansing. Press a piece of tape or a pad soaked in cleansing oil onto it and lift straight up instead of dragging it across your skin. Keep tape away from your eyes and lashes.
Skip scrubs and strong actives for a night
After a long night under heavy makeup, your skin does not need more friction. Leave scrubs, peels, retinol, and acid products out until the next day, and finish with a plain moisturizer.
If you have threading or waxing booked in the days after Halloween, keep them out for longer. Before any service, Rozy's asks that you have not used scrubs, retinol, or peels, exfoliated, or tanned in the previous 72 hours.
When a facial helps the week after Halloween
If your skin feels congested a few days later, that is what a facial is for. Every facial at Rozy's starts with a free skin consultation, then a cleanse, warm steam to soften congestion, extractions where needed, a facial massage, and a mask chosen for your skin that day.
The Mini Facial is a 30-minute refresh with cleanse, exfoliation, and mask for $40. The Signature Facial: Her is $70 and is booked in a 1-hour block with a 20% deposit. Book ahead at our Stockbridge, McDonough, or Morrow studio. Walk-ins are welcome for threading and standard waxing.
